EASTERN CREEK BECKONS FOR MCNALLY AND HIS V8 UTE
6 March 2008

West Coast Racing’s Glenn McNally heads to Eastern Creek this weekend for Round 2 of the 2008 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series in what will be his first visit to the Sydney circuit.

After a taste of the series last year, where he finished 7th outright on debut at Phillip Island, the 28 year-old West Australian decided to make a full assault on the series in 2008.

Round 1 at Adelaide’s  Clipsal 500 two weeks ago saw McNally finish 18th in what was his first drive on the concrete-lined street circuit and also his first drive in a Commodore (VU) ute.

“Adelaide was just about survival and getting acquainted with the Holden ute,” he said.

“I found that the Holden was a fairly different beast to the Falcon I drove at Phillip Island.”

Eastern Creek this weekend is the last meeting McNally will do in the older model ute, campaigned to series victory in 2007 by Grant Johnson, before the West Coast Racing team updates to a brand new VE ute for round 3.

“The ute I am currently driving is a very good race-car,” Glenn said.

“But the new model will be that little bit better and I am looking forward to its delivery.”

Being new to Eastern Creek, as he will be at all rounds in 2008, McNally has a set plan to learn the track and get the most out of his car.

“Basically the first session is where I will learn the track, and from there we will start making changes to the set-up to try and get some speed.”

With a reverse-top-16 race as the second race of the event it is important for McNally to get inside the top 16 in race 1.
“That’s where we missed out at Adelaide which made it difficult to progress from there,” he said.

“We really need to slip into the top 16 so we can get a good starting spot in race 2 which will set us up for an overall result.

Practice for the V8 Utes is on Friday with qualifying and race 1 on Saturday. Race 2 and 3 will be held on Sunday.

Glenn McNally and West Coast Racing are supported by the following companies: NRW Holdings, South Coast Excavations, OzTrac, Action Mining Services, Brandrill, Heliwest, Hammond Electrical, EIW, Barbagallo, Statewide Oils / Roto Oil, Titan Plant Hire, Sunrunner Sports Cruiser, Promac, Mt Magnet Drilling, Energy Enterprises.
