NEW UTE AND NEW TRACK FOR GLENN MCNALLY IN THE TOP END
3 July 2008
Glenn McNally’s long-awaited new VE Ute has arrived in time for his first trip to Darwin to race at Hidden Valley Raceway for Round 4 of the V8 Utes Series this weekend.
Hidden Valley poses a few firsts for McNally, it is his first trip the Australia’s most northern capital and it will be the first time he gets to compete on a level playing field against his fellow Holden rivals.
Glenn got a taste for what is to come when he was able to complete few practice sessions at Sydney’s Eastern Creek last week just to get a feel for the new Ute and see how it compares to what he is used to.
“I really bonded with the new Ute,” Glenn said.
“It was comfortable from the first lap and it should be a bit faster that the old one.
“It seemed to be a lot grippier, especially in the high speed corners.
“The main thing is to be competing in the same equipment as everyone else.”
Darwin is a ‘cool’ 30 degrees at this time of year, a fair bit hotter than Glenn’s hometown Perth, and much more humid.
“We arrived a few days ago just to prepare for the head and humidity,” Glenn said.
“It will be hot, but that is the same for everyone.”
With one of the longest straights in motorsport, at 1.1km, leading into a hairpin turn there is no doubt to be plenty of action going into turn 1.
“The track looks really interesting, I can’t wait to get onto it and give the new car a real shakedown.”
While the Darwin event is known as one of the biggest parties of the year for fans it will be all work for Glenn as he continues to make inroads into the competitive field.
“We have a lot of sponsors here this weekend, and while they will be partying I will be doing my best to put on a show and give them value for money.”
Round 4 of the V8 Ute Series will be fought out over qualifying and three races this weekend.
