MCNALLY’S FIRST TASTE OF HIDDEN VALLEY
4 July 2008
Glenn McNally completed his first laps of Darwin’s Hidden valley Raceway today when he hit the track in his brand new VE Holden Ute for the opening practice sessions.
With a new track and a new car to learn, Glenn’s intention was to ease his way into this weekend and build momentum throughout.
Glenn was 24th fastest in the first practice session and 20th in the second while gaining valuable track time.
“I flat spotted a tyre on the first lap of the first session which naturally made me a bit more tentative for the rest of the session as well as making the car a bit of a handful to drive,” Glenn said.
Glenn’s first impressions of the circuit are positive although he believes there are a few tricky spots.
“Turn 1 is a really difficult place to pull the car up because you come off one of the longest straights in motorsport and into a hairpin corner which requires braking and turning at the same time.
“There are definitely some difficult aspects to the track but there are also some really fun parts too.”
With plenty of weekend ahead Glenn with do a track-walk tonight and discuss the different aspects of the circuit with his engineer.
“It makes a big difference having driven on the track today because we can discuss the corners knowing exactly how the car goes around them.”
With realistic goals Glenn knows the importance of making it into the top 16 at the end of the first race in order to get a boost up the order for the reverse-top-16 second race.
“That’s what we are planning to do tomorrow,” he said.
“If we can get a good result in Race 2 it will set us up for the round.
“The more laps I do in the new car, and around here, the more confident I am becoming, as well as faster.”
Glenn’s qualifying is at 10.55am tomorrow followed by Race 1 at 1.15pm (local time).
