MCNALLY QUALIFIES NINTH IN DARWIN UTES
5 July 2008
Glenn McNally qualified ninth at Round 4 of the V8 Utes Series at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway today before a strong 11th place in the opening race.
Glenn was able to turn things around overnight after his first outing at the circuit yesterday which was also his first outing in his new VE Ute.
“It came down to doing my homework overnight,” Glenn said.
“We did a track walk yesterday after practice and then again this morning after I had slept on the information I had absorbed.”
Glenn was able to take almost 2 seconds off his gap to the front overnight with about eight tenths being the final difference.
Race 1 was going well for Glenn with strong progress in the early stages until being held up on the hard-to-pass circuit.
“I was ahead of Simon Wills for most of the race until I got caught out trying to pass for eighth position and lost a couple to finish 11th.”
Looking to improve his performance again in tomorrow’s Race 2 Glenn will focus on changing his braking marker at the end of the front straight.
“When I pull inside someone to make a pass at the end of the straight I lose sight of my marker which is on the outside of the circuit,” Glenn said.
“I will look for a new marker on the inside of the circuit in tomorrow’s warm up, which should help me make passing moves with more confidence.”
Glenn will start from grid 6 in tomorrow’s reverse-top-sixteen Race 2 and is hoping to set himself up for a strong round result by picking up a few places in that race.
“I lost a few places while ‘having a go’ today but that will not stop me from giving it my all tomorrow.”
Glenn’s races tomorrow are at 10.00am and 1.30pm local time.
