MCNALLY BOUNCES BACK IN V8 UTES AT EASTERN CREEK
9 March 2008

A hard charging Glenn McNally finished Round 2 of the V8 Ute Series at Eastern Creek Raceway on a high note as he climbed from 28th to 17th in the final race driving the West Coast Racing Holden SS.

After mechanical woes robbed him of serious practice time on Friday, a stellar performance in qualifying saw the Series rookie start Race 1 15th on the grid in his first ever meeting at the circuit.

A first corner incident put McNally out of the race and gave the West Coast Racing team a big job to get the car back on the track for today’s two races.

After working well into the night the car was ready for Race 2 with McNally starting from the rear of the grid.

“Race 2 was all about keeping a clean nose and staying out of trouble,” McNally said.

“It was really important to get a full race in this morning.

“We had consistent race pace and made steady progress making our way to 19th.

“Unfortunately for Race 3 we still have to start at the rear as they base the grid on aggregate points.”

Having the pace to race further a field, McNally took no time in disposing those in front of him in the eight-lap Race 3.

He gained more positions than any other driver in an impressive hard charging performance that saw him climb to 17th by the end of the race, and also second highest rookie.

“I really had a go in the final race,” Glenn said.

“We had nothing to lose and I hadn’t had a chance to put together a race where I could push hard.

“It was a disappointing start to the meeting but there were some real positives to come from it,” Glenn said.

This was the last meeting Glenn would race the VZ ute before stepping into a brand new VE Ute for the next round at his home circuit, Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway.

“I am hoping to get some testing in before the next round,” he said.

“I need some time in the new ute and it will be good to do some laps around a track I am familiar with.”

All the action from Round 2 at Eastern Creek will be televised on Channel 7 next weekend, check local guides for details.

Round 3 of the V8 Ute Series is at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway on 9-11 May.
