MCNALLY HEADS HOME FOR WA’S V8 UTES ROUND 3 BATTLE
8 MAY 2008

West Coast Racing’s Glenn McNally will battle on home soil this weekend as the V8 Ute Series heads to Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway for Round 3.

The home round has been much anticipated by Series-Rookie McNally, especially with the promise of a new VE Commodore Ute for the round. Unfortunately the new car has not been completed in time for the round leaving McNally one of only three Holden drivers to take to the track in the older model.

“It’s a bit disappointing because we would have liked to have had the new car for our home round,” McNally said.

“There is nothing we can do about it as they all come from the same race-shop and we just have to wait our turn.”

Along with a number of other competitors Glenn was able to put in some testing miles at the track he knows so well, although most of his past experience has been in a Formula Ford.

“The ute is a very different beast to the Formula Ford,” he said.

“It is heavy and has understeer and oversteer everywhere, it is quite a handful.

“We have gained a fair bit of knowledge from testing so we will go away and make a few changes that will make the car a little more user friendly.”

Not being one to shy away from a challenge, Glenn will push his Ute to the limit to take advantage of his home-track knowledge.

“I put pretty high expectations on myself, especially in front of my home crowd and with many of our sponsors on hand at the circuit.

“Local knowledge will play a huge part in the way the races pan out so I am hoping to have an advantage in that area.

“Hopefully I can reward them for their support of our team this year.”

The V8 Utes have two practice sessions on Friday, qualifying and race 1 on Saturday and the final two races on Sunday.
