LACK OF GRIP TROUBLES MCNALLY IN BARBAGALLO PRACTICE
9 May 2008

West Coast Racing’s Glenn McNally had a great start to his V8 Utes campaign at his home track, Barbagallo Raceway, today where he was as high as eighth place in the opening practice session only to slip down the order in the second session as his Commodore Ute ran out of grip.

The Series Rookie was satisfied with his first run even though he lacked a little grip in the areas of the track he could most use it.

“To finish the first session in 11th place was good for a first run,” he said.

“The car was slippery but we were not too worried because we thought it would grip up when the rubber went down later in the day.”

Unfortunately for Glenn, as the rubber went down on the circuit his car became more slippery and the West Australian slipped back to 20th fastest in that session.

“It seems that the tyres had gone beyond their useful grip levels and given me far too much understeer and oversteer,” he said.

“We will give it a new set of tyres for tomorrow’s qualifying and we have put a new set of front shocks in the car too just to cover all bases.

“Coming to a track that I know so well has really highlighted how different the utes are to anything I have driven before.”

With new tyres and changes to the set-up Glenn hopes to push his older model ute up the grid and show some of the more experienced drivers the way around his favorite circuit.

“We have all our sponsors here tomorrow so I will be doing my best to reward them for all the support they have given us as well as provide some good entertainment.

Glenn has qualifying and race 1 tomorrow with race 2 and 3 on Sunday.
