MCNALLY CRACKS THE TOP TEN AT BARBAGALLO
10 May 2008

West Coast Racing’s Glenn McNally has forged his way to tenth place in the opening race of the V8 Utes at Barbagallo Raceway today in what is a season-best result in the competitive category.

After suffering lack of grip in yesterday’s practice sessions, overnight changes including new tyres pushed the West Australian up the order to 15th in the rain-effected qualifying session this morning.

“The track was getting faster with each lap as the water dried up,” McNally said.

“15th was a reasonable result considering the varying conditions and the fact that the session was red-flagged before I got the most out of the car.”

With improved weather for the first race Glenn was looking forward to the opportunity to race door handle to door handle on his home track.

“I was really hoping to progress through the field and bring the car home in one piece,” he said.

And that he did as he made his way to tenth place in an impressive drive throughout the race.

“I just kept plugging away and made up places where I could without damaging the car.

“Being down on power (compared to the later model utes) made it difficult to capitalize on my overall lap speed.

“I needed to get everything perfect to keep pace with the VE Commodores, it seemed that a little extra power made their cars more forgiving when they made mistakes,” he said.

With two races tomorrow Glenn has the opportunity to make a big impact on the event, the first (race 2) of which is a reverse-top-16 giving a start on the third row.

“I will be doing my best to gain places in race 2 as this would really set me up for a good overall result.

“I am just going to put my head down and get on with the job; the results will then take care of themselves.”

The V8 Utes have race 2 and 3 tomorrow which will conclude Round 3 of the Series.
