HOMETOWN TOP TEN FOR MCNALLY AT BARBAGALLO RACEWAY
11 May 2008
Glenn McNally has scored his first top-ten round-result for 2008 in the V8 Utes Series at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway in what was an impressive performance for the local Series-Rookie.
After a slippery start to the event McNally pushed his way from a qualifying position of 15th to finish tenth outright after three grueling races over the weekend.
With home-track experience and plenty of sponsors on hand Glenn soon found out that a V8 Ute is more of a handful compared to the Formula Ford that he has raced so many times before at the tight circuit..
“Coming here really highlighted to me how much you have to wrestle a ute around the track,” he said.
“A Formula Ford is basically on rails around here whereas the ute goes from understeer to oversteer all in one turn.”
Race 1 saw Glenn make considerable progress as he forged his way to tenth place to give him sixth starting place in the reverse-top-16 race 2.
“It was important to be inside the top 16 in race 1 as it can really set up your weekend to start up the field in race 2.”
Glen finished 11th in race 2 and started from 12th in race 3.
“Consistency was the key this weekend, plenty of guys crashed their cars and missed out on points,” he said.
The final race saw McNally finish 11th which gave him his first top-ten finish for the season.
“Every time I race I seem to be getting more of an understanding of how the utes behave and how they are best raced.
“I want to keep pushing forward and sometimes I have to remind myself that I have only raced four meetings in the category,” he said.
“I am happy with the result this weekend; we overcame some handling problems with the car and finished tenth in a 32 car field.
“We brought he car back straight and entertained our sponsors along the way.”
Action from Perth will be televised on Channel 7 in two weeks time.
Glenn’s next outing will be at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway on 5-6 July.
