MCNALLY’S GOOD FORM CRUNCHED IN FINAL AT WAKEFIELD PARK
6 April 2008

A first turn pile-up ended Mark McNally’s final race today after an outstanding performance in the previous two races.

The pile-up, caused when Mark was hit in the front wheel, set off a chain of events that took out 10 cars and caused the race to be red flagged.

“I lost a few places at the start,” Mark said.

“And then I got hit on the front wheel as I turned in and my car spun around into the path of the oncoming field.”

Severe dust meant that following cars could not see ahead and a mass pile up began.

Mark received a big hit in the driver’s door which knocked the wind out of him, he was otherwise ok.

“I think I will be a bit sore tomorrow,” he said.

“I knew that I was stopped in a really dangerous place but I couldn’t move the car.

“It was a huge hit, one that you don’t want to have.”

The car received severe damage to the framework inside the door but it did its job in protecting the driver. It will need to be stripped and re-aligned on a chassis jig.

The first race saw McNally put in a strong performance to finish sixth with a car that was extremely loose.

“We had a really god run in the first race but I almost lost it at one stage and decided that I would just make sure I finished strongly rather than push too hard.”

With changes to the car for Race 2 Mark pushed harder and was extremely happy with the pace of the car.

“The car was so strong in Race 2,” he said.

“We had the set-up right and we were right on the pace that we needed for the final race.”

With the crash in the final the West Coast Racing team will have a lot of work to do before the next round at Sandown Park.

“We should have ended the meeting with a really strong result but now we have ended with a smashed up car – but that’s motor racing,” he said.

Mark McNally and West Coast Racing are supported by the following companies: NRW Holdings, South Coast Excavations, OzTrac, Action Mining Services, Brandrill, Heliwest, Hammond Electrical, EIW, Barbagallo, Statewide Oils / Roto Oil, Titan Plant Hire, Sunrunner Sports Cruiser, Promac, Mt Magnet Drilling, Energy Enterprises.
